Recreational Opportunities

Whether its fishing on the banks of the Chattahoochee River or hitting a long drive on the golf course, the Phenix City-Russell County area offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages.
CITY RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
GARRETT-HARRISON STADIUM - Numerous school teams make use of the stadium for football games, which also is available for large group events. The stadium also is the home of the Bi-City Stars.
RECREATIONAL CENTERS - There are two recreation centers, one if the Roy Martin Center in north Phenix City, and the Calvin Spencer Center in south Phenix City. Both offer a wide range of activities for children, teens, and adults.

TENNIS COMPLEX - Located at Idle Hour Park, the tennis complex offers classes for children, teens, and adults. There are additional free courts available at Idle Hour and Southside

POOLS - There are two pools available for use or group rental: Southside Park and Calvin Spencer Recreation Center adjacent to Meadowlane Park.
BALL FIELDS - Several fields are available for use. A new softball complex for boys and girls currently is operating at Idle Hour Park. There are four fields available at Southside Park. Our area also features three baseball fields; two located at the Dixie Youth Fields and one for older youth at Darnell Field (adjacent to Garret-Harrison Stadium)

CENTRAL ACTIVITIES FOR SENIORS - The purpose of the Activities Center is to provide well-rounded programs for our senior citizens. In doing this we hope that everyone will enjoy years of fun and fellowship with one another. Programs include dance, exercise, crafts, games, music, and much more!

JOGGING/WALKING TRAILS - There are two trails that are available at Idle Hour, with a third at Meadowlake Park. The track at Phenix City Intermediate is available for public use after school hours.
GOLF COURSE - Lakewood Golf course is located at 2800 Lakewood Drive and is built to standards established by the PGA. It offers a challenging 18 holes of golf. Additionally, Grand National (a part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail) is located in Opelika, Alabama, only 30 minutes from our area.

PARKS - There are five parks available to the public:
IDLE HOUR PARK - Fishing, jogging, playgrounds, picnic areas with grills, tennis courts, softball fields, covered pavilions, outdoor volleyball court and clubhouse available for rental.
LAKEWOOD PARK - Playgrounds, fishing, picnic areas with grills, softball fields, covered pavilions, pool, and an 18 hole golf course
MEADOWLAKE PARK - Picnic area with grills, playgrounds, softball fields, covered pavilions, and swimming pool
SOUTHSIDE PARK - Tennis courts, outdoor basketball court, playgrounds, picnic areas with grills, covered pavilions, softball fields, and swimming pool
AUSTIN SUMBRY PARK - Fishing, playgrounds, picnic areas with grills, softball fields, covered pavilions, and horse areas.
FEDERAL RECREATION AREAS
BLUFF CREEK - Designed for total family use. Bluff Creek offers a boat ramp, tent and motor home camping, playground equipment and fishing. Information and comfort stations are on site.
BRIAR CREEK - Located midway up Hatchechubbee Creek, Briar Creek offers limited facilities which include a boat ramp, outdoor restrooms, and bank fishing.
HATCHECHUBBEE CREEK PARK - Located at the mouth of Hatchechubbee Creek, this park features a boat ramp, picnic area, and comfort station.

STATE PARKS
CHEWACLA STATE PARK - Located in Auburn, Alabama about 30 minutes from Phenix City
LAKEPOINT RESORT - Located in Eufaula, Alabama about 45 minutes from Phenix City
EUFAULA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE - Adjacent to Lakepoint Resort, in Eufaula, Alabama
